Macdonald Residence Receives National Award

Portland, OR. Portland's Old Town assisted living facility, the Macdonald Residence, was awarded the Excellence in Affordable Assisted Living in the urban/suburban category last month in Miami, Florida.
Sponsored by the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging (AAHSA) and the National Cooperative Bank Development Corporation (NCBDC), the purpose of the competition was to "recognize and disseminate a replicable example of affordable assisted living, which provides excellence in services and environment". Entries were submitted from across the nation.
The Macdonald Residence is a 54-unit apartment building and licensed assisted living facility serving primarily frail and/or cognitively impaired older persons in Portland.s inner core. A brainchild of Father Richard Berg, Executive Director of the Macdonald Center, the Residence furthers the mission to provide support and assistance to the poorest of the poor, the alone, and the under-served.
As part of the competition, the Macdonald Residence project was additionally credited for its creativity and accomplishments in overcoming funding, physical program, and organizational challenges. Portland-based, Concepts in Community Living provides the operational and property management services to the Residence.
